Waste Management
Weekly Garbage Pick-up: Refuse carts should be placed next to the street before 8:00 AM each Monday morning. When Monday is a holiday, Pick-up day will be Tuesday. The driver does not get out of the truck to pick up trash that is alongside the cart; a special fee-based pickup can be arranged if needed.
Monthly Yard/Brush Pick-up: Brush accumulated from your property should be placed at the street in front of your property for pick-up. Special pick-up due to storm can be arranged.
Monthly pick-up on 2nd Tuesdays (May through December)
Brush and leaves must be bagged, except in the months of November and December
In the event of bad weather, pick-up may begin BEFORE or AFTER scheduled day.
Disposal of Household Items
To keep our community clean, please utilize the following information in the disposal of your household items:
Specialized Recycle/Disposal Event, June 3: Chikaming Township collection event 2-6PM Harbert (5 min drive)
Annual Junk Day, July 8: Items must be placed on the street before 7am.
Harbor Country Mission: Accepting furniture, clothing and other household items. With advanced notice, they will even pick up items and haul them away! HCM also accepts Michigan bottles and cans so they can return for a profit.
Cottage Seasonal Water Shut Off/On
Please notify Steve Glassman at least 48 hours in advance of needing the house water, street buffalo box turned on or off. It is best that you are at your house when the water is turned on or off. If you are using a licensed plumber to shut down your house, it is ok for them to turn the buffalo box on or off.

Releaf Bethany
Bethany Beach is offering a subsidized plan to assist leaseholds in planting new trees. The board has approved the Releaf Bethany Beach plan to copay a portion of the cost for planting up to 50 new, deciduous shade trees on individual leaseholds to replace the many trees that are lost every year. This is a negotiated plan with the nursery who will be supplying and planting the trees. The discounted cost to the leasehold is $250 for a 2" tree (appx 9'-10’) and $375 for a 2 1/2" tree (appx 10'-12').
Interested Leaseholder? Please contact us as we would like to meet with you to assist you in selecting suitable location(s) and tree(s). Restrictions apply.
Orders for trees will taken now through Labor Day weekend 2024 for group planting in the Spring of 2025. If you are interested, please TEXT Mark Grandholm at 219-629-1329 or Steve Glassman at 630-542-4059 to arrange a meeting.
Build/Alter/Lot Improvements
The Bethany Beach Building and Alterations team would like to help you!
Chikaming Township has legal jurisdiction about work that is done—even in Bethany. Their involvement is to help our homes to be safe for your family, our community, and last for years to come. Without compliance to permitting and ordinances, some receive substantial fines that may remain on-going until the out-of-compliance work is corrected and compliant.
For questions about compliance codes, please contact the Bethany Beach Building Team. They are knowledgeable and ready to answer all your questions.
