Bethany Beach is a private community whose facilities are for the exclusive use of its leaseholders and their guests. While using the beach, lifeguards may ask which leasehold a person is associated with.

Storage at the Beach

Chair Racks

  • Open May 1 through October 13

  • Chair racks are first-come come-first serve.

  • One spot per cottage: max 6 chairs

  • All chairs must be labeled with names.

  • Please don’t attach any other items to the chair racks.

Stand Up Paddle Boards (SUP) & Kayak Racks

  • Open May 1 through October 13

  • MUST be reserved by email: bblifeguard@gmail.com

  • We have 8 racks, 48 spots for SUP’s & 16 kayaks, plus the new kayak cable bed

  • All equipment must be labeled so we can contact you if there is a storm and your equipment was affected.

  • All equipment left on the beach is at your own risk.  We encourage locking to the rack.

  • Nothing else can be locked to your SUP or Kayak spot, example chair, lifejackets, etc.

  • Please keep your equipment in your area, please do not impede your neighbor’s area.


June 2025 update on SUP Racks

The beach committee thanks you for your patience with the SUP racks. They have all been fixed, and new yellow noodles have been added to keep your sup boards safe. Please remember that all kayaks go on the bottom slot, NOT on noodles. Please remember that no other equipment can be added to racks, only boards and kayaks.

Safety on the Beach

Lifeguards are provided at certain times posted on the back of the lifeguard chair during the season to assist in the safe and orderly operation of all waterfront facilities and activities.  It is imperative to obey and respect the lifeguards’ authority and observe the rules and flags posted on the beach.

Youth at the Beach

  • All Youth 12 and younger must be with an adult at the Beach.

Flag System

  • Green flag is flown when the water is open for swimming.

  • Yellow flag is flown when the water is open for swimming but needs to have extra care and respect by swimmers and adults as they supervise children in the water.

  • Red flag is flown when the water is CLOSED for ALL swimmers.

General Beach Rules

  • Swimming area and boating area will be clearly marked with buoys for safe swimming and boating.  Please abide by the rules enforced by our lifeguards.

  • No smoking or alcohol on the beach at any time.

  • Drinking fountain and faucet are not to be a kids play area.

  • Trashcans are placed on the landings. Help keep our beach clean by throwing your trash away.

  • After large holes are dug in the sand, please fill them in to prevent others from getting hurt in the evening.

Pets on the Beach

  • Pets are allowed on the beach before 10am and after 8pm

  • Please clean up after your pet

  • Use a leash coming and going 

Beach Parking Lot & Parking Passes

Parking passes must be displayed in the windshield of any vehicle parked at the beach parking lot. For parking passes, contact John Carlson.

  • Beach gates close nightly from 10pm-8am.

Handicap Golfcart parking passes are available at the landing. Please contact John Carlson or Alane Church.
